Walaza Storms to Rovereto Victory in Record Time

South African sprinting star Bayanda Walaza put on a masterclass at the Rovereto International Meeting, blazing across the finish line in a meeting-record 9.91 seconds (+0.5 m/s) to take a decisive victory in the men's 100m.
The 20-year-old Olympic 4x100m silver medallist and former World U20 double champion left the rest of the field trailing in his wake. Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu secured second place in 10.01s, while Canada’s Eliezer Adjibi rounded out the podium in third with a time of 10.09s.
This brilliant performance marks Walaza’s fourth sub-10 second run of an extraordinary 2026 season, a campaign that has already seen him break the 9.90 barrier twice and equal his personal best of 9.89s, cementing his reputation as one of world athletics' brightest young talents.
