Road closures announced for Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K on Heritage Day

Johannesburg is getting ready to run as thousands of runners take to the streets for the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K on Thursday, 24 September 2026. With the city set to come alive with world-class road running, entertainment and an electric race-day atmosphere, a number of road closures and traffic restrictions will be in place to ensure the safety of participants, spectators and road users.
Motorists and residents are encouraged to plan ahead and familiarise themselves with the affected routes and closure times before race day.
“Staging an event of this magnitude in the heart of Johannesburg is an incredible opportunity to showcase the City of Gold, but we recognise that it also has an impact on the city’s roads and those who use them,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Series Founder. “Our priority is to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, and the road closures are an important part of making this possible. We appreciate the public’s patience and support as we bring the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K to life on National Heritage Day.”

ROAD CLOSURES:
The 2026 Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K starts and finishes at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, taking runners across the iconic Nelson Mandela Bridge, along sections of the M1 and M2 highways, and through a loop of the Johannesburg CBD. Event build-up will begin from 14h00 on Wednesday, 23 September 2026. All road closures will be lifted and normal traffic flow restored by 11h30 on event day. JMPD officers and event marshals will be deployed along the route to manage traffic and assist road users throughout.
