The latest crime statistics released by the police for the period between October and December 2025 show that Gauteng remains one of the most dangerous provinces in the country.
Although there are slight improvements in certain crime categories, the overall level of violent crime remains extremely high.
Some serious crimes, such as murder, house robbery and business robbery, dropped slightly. However, these decreases are relatively small in relation to the extremely high level of violent crime still prevalent in the province.
At the same time, other crimes spiked alarmingly. Cases of kidnapping, assault and sexual offences, in particular, show an upward trend. Gauteng also remains a hotspot for hijackings, armed robbery and organised crime. The province continues to contribute a disproportionately large share to South Africa’s total crime burden.
These statistics confirm that Gauteng residents face a serious safety crisis daily, which has a detrimental impact on communities, businesses and investor confidence.
The solution does not lie in symbolic policies, such as further disarming law-abiding citizens, but in taking decisive action against crime.
This includes dismantling criminal syndicates, combating illegal firearms, improving border control as well as boosting intelligence-driven policing.
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) once again emphasises the critical role of effective parliamentary and provincial oversight.
The party will continue to closely monitor the work of the police, the Department of Community Safety and related structures, and hold them accountable where they fail.
Ensuring communities' safety and security is a basic prerequisite for economic growth, job creation and stability.
The Freedom Front Plus remains committed to fighting crime, both in legislative bodies and in communities at grass-roots level.
