Kruger statue ought to be protected

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) in Gauteng has noted with horror that the Kruger grouping of statues on the historic Church Square in Pretoria's CBD has been vandalised once again.

It was discovered this morning that parts of the four Burgher sentry statues, that symbolically guard the Kruger statue, have been sawn off – specifically their rifles and feet. It is suspected that the vandals are scrap metal thieves targeting the sculptures due to the value of bronze.

The fence surrounding the statues, which has previously been breached by vandals, was clearly of no use in keeping them at bay.

The Freedom Front Plus refuses to accept that Afrikaner landmarks and memorials are continually targeted and defaced amid the lawless and struggling economic climate created by the ANC in the country.

The party demands improved security for Afrikaner heritage treasures.

South Africa – and “Oom Paul” (Uncle Paul) – deserve better.
