City Transport guarantees seamless Race Day Travel at Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K

The 2025 Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES will conclude in the “City of Gold” on National Heritage Day, Wednesday, 24 September, with the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K. To ensure a smooth race day, participants are encouraged to use the convenient Park and Ride service from the Johannesburg Athletic Stadium in the Ellis Park Precinct, or the fast and reliable Gautrain and Gautrain Bus services.
“It’s always special to end the series in Johannesburg on National Heritage Day, and we’re excited to welcome runners to the grand finale of the 2025 Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Series Founder. “To make the journey to Mary Fitzgerald Square stress-free, we’ve put transport solutions in place. The Park and Ride service from the Johannesburg Athletic Stadium in Ellis Park offers secure parking and bus transfers to the start from 5:15am, while the Gautrain and Gautrain Bus service provides another easy, reliable option with the Gautrain Busses starting to leave from 05:45 from Johannesburg Park Station. Runners wearing their race numbers on the front of their t-shirts will receive free access to the Gautrain and Gautrain Buses. Both options are complimentary for all participants.”
Meyer concludes, “We encourage every runner to take advantage of these services. They’re designed to make race day safe, and enjoyable - so you can focus on the excitement of running through Joburg on Heritage Day.”

OPTION 1: Park and Ride service
To the start: from the Johannesburg Athletic Stadium, 158 Van Beek Street, New Doornfontein in the Ellis Park Precinct
Pickup: Van Beek Street
Time: from 05:15 with the last bus leaving at 07:00
Return Trip: from Mary Fitzgerald Square to the Johannesburg Athletic Stadium
Pickup: Lilian Ngoyi Street between Miriam Makeba and Gerad Sekota Street
Time: from 09:00
OPTION 2: Gautrain and Gautrain Bus service
Depending on their starting point, runners are required to choose the nearest Gautrain station and plan their route to the Park Station in Johannesburg, which is the closest stop to the event. A Gautrain bus shuttle service is offered between Park Station and the race start and finish points.
As a runner taking part in the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K, you will receive a free Gautrain Card, to be redeemed on the day for travel to the event. All you have to do is, wear your race number and collect your preloaded card at the event promoters near the ticketing office.
The 9 stations to choose from as a starting point include: Hatfield, Pretoria, Centurion, Midrand, Marlboro, Sandton, Rosebank, Park* (closest station to the start area of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K) and Rhodesfield.

CHARITY SUPPORT: The Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES proudly supports the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) as the official charity of the entire series of events. A non-profit leader in the fight against cancer since 1931, CANSA enables research, educates the public and advocates for and supports all people affected by cancer, while leading SA towards a cancer-free society. When entering an Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES event online, runners can show their support by donating towards CANSA.
Prize Purse: The Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES boasts an impressive, combined prize purse of R1 610 000.00 in 2025. Each of the five events will feature a total prize allocation of R322 000. Of this, R252 000.00 will be dedicated to the Open Category, with R126 000.00 awarded to the Top 10 Open Men and R126 000.00 to the Top 10 Open Women. The top male and female finishers in each city will receive R30 000.00 each, with R25 000.00 going to second-place finishers and R20 000.00 to third-place finishers.
Additionally, R70 000.00 will be allocated to Age Categories. The Age Category prize pool will reward the top three finishers in the Junior, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+ age groups."
South African Athlete Incentives: The Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES also has an unprecedented “SA Athlete Prize Incentive Schedule” for 2025. Applying to all five races, the incentive schedule offers bonuses for exceptional performances. In the men’s category, bonuses will start for times faster than 28 minutes, with a substantial R200 000.00 bonus for breaking the 27-minute barrier. For women, bonuses begin for times faster than 32:08 minutes, with an impressive R200 000.00 incentive for breaking the 30:23 mark.
