Returning to the picturesque city of Durban on Sunday, 12 October 2025, the Boxer Super Run features four start waves designed to cater to the diverse abilities of Durban’s running community: OPEN WAVE, SUPER SOCIAL WAVE, ELITE WOMEN, and ELITE MEN.

While the ELITE WAVES are by invitation only, the OPEN WAVE and SUPER SOCIAL WAVE are open to all runners who share the event’s spirit and are in tune with their respective race-day goals.

“Since its inception, the Boxer Super Run has been committed to one clear goal – welcoming and accommodating a diverse range of participants,” says Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores. “The beauty of a 5km run is that it truly has something for everyone. It’s short enough to be approachable for newcomers yet still offers a thrilling challenge for experienced runners chasing a fast time. In just one distance, you can bring together elite athletes, social joggers, and first-time participants - all sharing the same route, energy, and sense of accomplishment.”

Enhancing the attraction of the 5km distance, the Boxer Super Run allows participants to choose their ideal starting wave based on their running experience.

“The OPEN WAVE kicks off at 07:00 and is perfect for serious runners who aren’t competing in the elite category,” confirms Pillay. “It’s a great choice for club athletes, school teams, and anyone eager to push themselves or set a new personal best (PB). If, however, you are more about fun than finish times, the SUPER SOCIAL WAVE offers a relaxed start between 08:00 and 09:30. Here, it’s all about enjoying the day with family, friends, or colleagues - no stopwatch required. We love seeing this wave bring the colour and energy, so dress up, get creative, and make it memorable.”

The 2025 Boxer Super Run will reach its action-packed finale with the ELITE WOMEN’S and ELITE MEN’S WAVES - a true spectator highlight. South Africa’s top athletes will go head-to-head in an electrifying battle for the coveted titles of King and Queen of the Boxer Super Run.

“Adding to the excitement, in 2023 Precious Mashele and Glenrose Xaba set new benchmarks as the fastest South Africans to complete a 5km (at that time) on home soil, clocking impressive times of 13:44 and 16:03, respectively. Precious outdid himself in 2024, smashing his previous record by finishing the 5km Elite Men’s race in a blistering 13:39 - and he did it on his birthday, making the achievement a truly personal celebration,” says Pillay.

In closing, Pillay adds: “It’s moments like these that elevate the Boxer Super Run beyond just a race. We can’t wait to see what the elite athletes will bring to the course in 2025. We encourage all Open and Super Social Wave runners to stick around after their race to cheer on the elites - you might just witness history in the making. Enter today and be part of South Africa’s most social and exciting 5km event.”
